Are you interested in making a difference in the life of someone in crisis? If so, we need you. We have a variety of opportunities for you to share your time and talents. You can be of great service for those seeking help for domestic violence.

Our volunteers are amazing! Maybe you’d like to be one of them. Hardworking, compassionate, discreet, and dedicated to supporting SOS’s work in providing help for victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse, and unplanned homelessness. Without our volunteers, we could never do all that we do for our many and varied clientele.

Front Desk/ Reception Duties:

Greeting clients and other community members. Additionally, volunteers will answer phones and direct callers to the appropriate staff members. Reception volunteers also supervise clients using the donations room. This position is in support of staff. Normal shifts are 3.5 hours each week.

Donations and Sorting Duties:

These volunteers will not engage clients. This position will receive, sort, hang, fold and arrange clothing and other donated items. Processed items will be stocked and displayed in the donations room. This position requires some lifting, bending, twisting, carrying, and reaching, among other varied tasks. Normal shifts are about 2 hours and are 1-2 days per week.

Crisis Line Operator Duties:

These volunteers receive 40 hours of specialized training focused on domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, safety planning, as well as peer counseling, crisis response, information, and referrals. These volunteers are always supported by certified advocates. Crisis Line volunteers are on duty during hours that SOS is closed. Calls are directed to the Crisis Operator through our answering service, to a cell phone issued to the on-call crisis line operator. These volunteers never meet with a client in person.
